Gig: Sahalie Wine Bar & Restaurant

I played at Sahalie for the first time last night and had a blast. If you live in the Corvallis area you should check this place out. The basement room is cozy, the food looked great, and the wine selection appeared to be stellar. (I regret not trying the food…)

Special thanks to the very nice crowd on hand - nice people who purchased quite a few CD’s! It was truly fun chatting with everyone during the breaks. I hope to be back at Sahalie for another show.

CD’s Have Arrived

Finally. No, really, finally CD #2 is ready for distribution. I received the shipment today and, having had a few hours to look over the product and listen to the CD, I can proudly report that The Long Road is now for sale.

I will have a CD release party soon, likely in October. In the meantime, the CD will be for sale at CDBaby and digitally (iTunes, etc) within the next week or so. Stay tuned for information regarding the CD Release party.

Gig: Albina Green

I played at Albina Green this past weekend on both Friday and Saturday night and had quite a nice time. Albina Green is a great little venue in NE Portland well worth visiting. They have a great outdoor seating area (summer won’t last much longer!) and the indoor section is quite cozy.

The owners are doing their best to get the word out that they host live music. I’ll be playing there on the third Saturday of every month - so, if you need a reason to get off your buttocks, head over to Albina Green and come see me perform.

(Note: I believe they host an open mic on Monday nights - give them a ring to confirm, if interested.)

Thanks to my friends Fleming & Co. for coming to the gig on Friday night. It was nice to have you there and chat during my break.

Another shout out to the nice couple with whom I chatted during my break on Saturday. Nice people.

10 reasons Rhapsody To-Go rocks

  1. Unlimited transfers to my portable music device.
  2. I listen to a ton of music. I like that.
  3. $14.99 per month is much less than I used to spend on CD’s.
  4. I’ve discovered some great musicians that I would not have found otherwise.
  5. We no longer use a CD player in our home.
  6. I never rotate CD’s in the CD-changer.
  7. Digital files don’t scratch and I don’t lose them.
  8. Not using CD’s = no one asking to borrow (lose) them.
  9. I can search and browse my music library in a matter of seconds.
  10. I still buy music and the price is always right.

If you are a music nut I strongly suggest Rhapsody To-Go. Warning: it can be addictive.

Gig: Boccherini’s

Katey and I had a nice time at Boccherini’s last night. Thanks to everyone in attendance - your tips and clapping are always appreciated. We should be back at Boccherini’s in the next 3 to 4 months.

Hank 3 at Dante’s

I took this crappy photo of Hank 3 and band at their recent show in Portland. A damn good show, I must say.

Date of show: July 27, 2007
Location: Dante’s (Portland, Oregon)

Listen to a Hank Williams III tune

Flight of the Conchords

I am guilty of being a bit of an HBO junkie. The Flight of the Conchords, a fairly new show, makes me laugh out loud even when watching alone. Here is a blurb from the HBO site:

“Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City….” [More Flight of the Conchords]

At any time during the show, typically twice per episode, a “music video” appears in the midst of the storyline. The “videos” are hilarious, the music is all over the map, and the lyrics are perfectly absurd. My lady, who is not a musician, finds the show quite funny, too. Yet another quirky and fun show on HBO.

Record #2 off for replication

I have sent record number 2 (The Long Road) off to Nettleingham Audio for replication. If all goes well I will have a CD release party in early September. Stay tuned for details…

Plug: If you need a project mastered or replicated I strongly recommend  Nettleingham Audio. They do good work, are very nice people, and the prices are quite reasonable.

Gig: Studio Donatello

Good times at the First Thursday gig at Studio Donatello tonight. As expected, the crowd was a little light - day after July 4th, Blues Festival, and hotter than hell - but it was still fun. No word yet if we will be back again next month….stay tuned.

Going to a show

I don’t go to very many shows these days. Focusing on your own music career often doesn’t leave much room for attending shows, etc. But every once in a while a show comes along that manages to get me off my ass. One of those ass-lifting shows is coming up and I have 2 tickets… Hank 3, baby!

I can’t wait for this show. Hank 3 delivers splendid “Outlaw Country” with strong song-writing, good musicians, and a whole lot of crazy. His show consists of 1 set of country music (Hank Williams III) and 1 set of some seriously heavy rock/metal/punk/thrash (AssJack). There is nothing tired, old, or boring about this guy.

Come on, who doesn’t like a guy who wrote, “I’m here to put the Dick in Dixie and the C**t back in Country”?!

I’ve heard, “that was the best show I’ve seen in a long time”, from quite a few people. Now I just hope that I haven’t set myself up for disappointment…
